Social construction of reality refers to the theory that the way we present ourselves to others is shaped partly by our interactions with others, as well as by our own life experiences. With that being said, during the sinking ship exercise, most of the people were making decisions to vote people off the boat based on disabilities and usefulness. This is a good example because they believe that it's socially acceptable to kick off the people that show no use to the situation for their own safety. If I put myself in that situation I would of reacted the same which comes to my realization that it's the only socially acceptable thing to do. The difference between a generalization and a stereotype is that a stereoype is defined as a misregarded belief that holds biast against people that are usually true, and because of this are considered to describe the majority of the crowd that describes them. For example: Black people like chicken. A Generalization is an unpresedented biased belief wthout any source of recemendation or understanding whatsoever. For example: That Girl looks weird. Many people these days get judged based off their past or how they present themselves to others for example in the video with Aaron Fotheringham, he gets judged harshly and accused of having "no use to society" until one day he proves everyone wrong when he gets recognized for his hard work. Aaron was mentally strong enough to accept himself which lead to his motivation to master his passion for Wheel Chair Sitting and become recognized world wide. The moral of the story is to never let unfortunate situations stop you from becoming something in life even if that means constantly trying until you master something. Aaron is a good role model for teens around the world with disabilities because he helps them realize that they shouldn't lose hope because in the long run happiness is the result.

  1. Hi Behar,

For your explanation of the sociology we are learning, try to explain the concepts in your own words. Or, use my posts to help if necessary. Wikipedia is ok if you don't understand, but then you should translate into your own explanation. Also, if you directly quote wikipedia, be sure say that is where you found it. Otherwise it's plagiarism.

I like your explanation of how the boat activity was an example of the social construction of reality.

Careful of the writing though. Like here: "unpresedented biased belief wthout any source of recemendation" that wording is confusing. Be sure to proofread and simplify your phrasing if necessary.
